The Fountain of Trevi, near Via del Corso, is so called after the term trivio, or cross-roads or exactly the place where three roads meet. The construction of the majestic marble set, of great scenographic effect, was begun under the Pope Clement XII and completed in 1762. The project was of the architect Salvi (1697-1751). In the centre, the mythological figure of Ocean on a chariot carried by two marine horses guided by Triton. Thronged with tourists all the year long, it is considered one of the most beautiful fountains in the world. The palace bn its background is that of the Dukes of Poll.
